The Project Accountant primarily takes part in ensuring accurate project financials. The position reports to the Director of Finance and Accounting and works closely with Project Managers to verify project cost data, assist in review and processing of project expenditures, billings, and alignment with corporate policy. The role works across multiple projects in parallel to review project budget to actual data, analyze project variances, and own resolution.  The role also owns tasks in the month end close process to be independently managed based upon schedule given.   

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Set up new projects, customers, and budgets in ERP.
  • Create project schedule of values for progress billing.
  • Prepare monthly client invoices,  (pay applications, G702/703 documents, and lien waivers).
  • Process and review bill payments for projects. Contact clients if past due.
  • Analyze project budget to actual data & ensure accuracy.  
  • Analyze & understand client contract terms and conditions. 
  • Perform quality control on estimating inputs in final contract drafts. 
  • Create draw schedules as needed.
  • Assist with month end closing processes, required project reporting, and company financial statements and schedules.
  • Partner with operations team to provide timely and accurate project forecasts.
  • Facilitate monthly review of projects with management team.
  • Facilitate and close out projects in ERP.
  • Contract and change order management. 
  • Make job cost transactions as needed to ensure accuracy of project financial data. 
  • Lead project handoff process with project and estimating team.  Create change order upon completion. 
  • Prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  • Promote collaboration across team.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and multi-task efficiently in a collaborative way.
  • Organizational aptitude.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A person who seeks to understand the “bigger picture” and how their role impacts the company’s function.

Preferences:
  • Familiarity with Premier or a cloud-based ERP, Bill.com, or similar/equivalent software experience.
